Την πατρίδα του τη Λήμνο τη θυμόταν και την αγαπούσε πολύ. Θυμόταν την απελευθέρωση από τους Τούρκους το 1912, σαν μια ανεκτίμητη εμπειρία, όταν οι Ελληνικές μονάδες απελευθέρωσης έφτασαν στο νησί. Όταν το νησί το κατέλαβε το Ελληνικό ναυτικό, οι Έλληνες στρατιώτες πήγαν σε διάφορα χωριά και διανυκτέρευαν στις πλατείες. Κάποια μικρά παιδιά έτρεχαν να δουν τους Έλληνες στρατιώτες, να δουν πώς είναι οι Έλληνες. «-Τι κοιτάτε ρε;», ρώτησε ένας στρατιώτης. «-Τους Έλληνες» «-Γιατί εσείς δεν είστε Έλληνες;»  «-Οχ’ εμείς είμαστε Ρωμιοί» ήταν η απάντηση απ’ την άλλη μεριά.

The Byzantine Empire, also referred to as the Eastern Roman Empire, was the continuation of the Roman Empire in the East during Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, when its capital city was Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul, which had been founded as Byzantium). Rûm (Arabic pronunciation: [ˈruːmˤ]), also transliterated as Roum or Rhum (in Koine Greek "Ρωμιοί" - Romioi, "Romans", in Arabic الرُّومُ ar-Rūm, Persian/Turkish روم Rûm), is a generic term used at different times in the Muslim world to refer to:

    - ethnocultural minorities such as the various Christian groups living in the Near East and their descendants, notably the Antiochian Greek Christians who are members of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch and the Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Syria, Lebanon, Northern Israel and the Hatay Province in Southern Turkey whose liturgy is still based on Koine Greek (called Al-Rûm)

    - more generally, to Greek Orthodox community members of the Ottoman Empire and also citizens of Turkey (Rûmi or Rûm in the broader sense, but that use is disappearing from the quasi-extinction of Greek communities in Izmir, Istanbul, Cappadocia, and the Black Sea coast).

    - geographic areas such as the Balkans and Anatolia generally to the Eastern Roman Empire in particular or to the Seljuk Sultanate of Rûm in Medieval Turkey.

The name derives from the Greek word Ρωμιοί (singular Ρωμιός), a later form in Greek of Ῥωμαῖοι Rhomaioi: "Romans". It refers to the Byzantine Empire, which was then simply known as the "Roman Empire" and had not yet acquired the designation "Byzantine," an academic term applied only after its dissolution. The city of Rome itself is known in modern Arabic as Rūmā روما (in Classical Arabic Rūmiyah رومية). The Arabic term Rûm is found in the pre-Islamic Namara inscription and later in the Quran. In the Sassanian period (pre-Islamic Persia) the word Hrōmāy-īg (Middle Persian) meant "Roman" or "Byzantine", which was derived from Rhomaioi.

Την εποχή του αυτοκράτορα Νικηφόρου Φωκά (963-969) οι σχέσεις με τη Δύση και ειδικότερα με τη  Γερμανική αυτοκρατορία και τη Ρώμη οξύνθηκαν. Πολύτιμη μαρτυρία για το επίπεδο αυτών των σχέσεων αποτελεί η πρεσβεία του Λιουτπράνδου στην  Κωνσταντινούπολη το 969. Ο Λιουτπράνδος ήταν  επίσκοπος της Κρεμόνας στη Βόρειο Ιταλία και βρισκόταν στη υπηρεσία του Όθωνα του Μεγάλου. Ήταν επίσης ένας από τους ελάχιστους λόγιους της Δύσης που γνώριζε ελληνικά. Ως απεσταλμένος του Γερμανού αυτοκράτορα στην Πόλη συνέταξε μια  έκθεση με το όνομα «Αναφορά περί της πρεσβείας εις Κωνσταντινούπολιν»,

             Στην έκθεση αυτή τόνισε την εχθρική  σχέση του Βυζαντινού αυτοκράτορα  με το  Γερμανό ηγεμόνα καθώς  ο τελευταίος διεκδικούσε το τίτλο του «αυτοκράτορα των Ρωμαίων» που κατείχε εν προκειμένω ο Νικηφόρος Φωκάς. Βασική επιδίωξη της αποστολής ήταν και η προετοιμασία ης του γάμου μεταξύ  βυζαντινής πριγκίπισσας Θεοφανούς και του γιου του Όθωνα Β΄.

             Δεν εκπλήσσει το γεγονός ότι ο αυτοκρατορικός τίτλος που οικειοποιήθηκαν οι Γερμανοί αυτοκράτορες αντιμετωπίστηκε από το Βυζάντιο με οργή και περιφρόνηση.

            Το 968, σύμφωνα με το Λιουπράνδο της Κρεμόνας, όταν οι παπικοί απεσταλμένοι έφθασαν στην Κωνσταντινούπολη φέρνοντας μια επιστολή που απευθυνόταν στον <<αυτοκράτορα των Ελλήνων>> και στην οποία ο πάπας αναφερόταν στον Όθωνα Α΄ ως το << σεπτό αυτοκράτορα των Ρωμαίων>>, οι Βυζαντινοί δεν μπόρεσαν να συγρατήσουν την αγανάκτησή τους:
 
<< Tι θρασύτητα>>, κραύγασαν, <<να αποκαλείται ο οικουμενικός αυτοκράτορας των Ρωμαίων, ο ένας και μοναδικός Νικηφόρος, ο μεγάλος, ο μεγαλοπρεπής <<ως αυτοκράτωρ των Ελλήνων>> και να πρασαγορεύεται ένα αξιολύπητο βαρβαρικό πλάσμα ως << Αυτοκράτωρ των Ρωμαίων>>! Ω ουρανέ! Ω θάλασσα! Ω γη! Τι θα κάνουμε με αυτούς τους παλιανθρώπους και τους εγκληματίες."

            Η διάσταση μεταξύ τους είναι απολυτη:

«Ο Πάπας είναι ανάγωγος. Αγνοεί ότι ο άγιος αυτοκράτορας Κωνσταντίνος μετέφερε εδώ το σκήπτρο, τη Σύγκλητο και ολόκληρο το ρωμαϊκό στρατό αφήνοντας στη Ρώμη μόνο ευτελείς υποτελείς. Κι εσείς δεν είστε Ρωμαίοι, είστε Λομβαρδοί».

                Ο Λιουτπράνδος διακόπτει τον αυτοκράτορα προσβεβλημένος:

«Γνωρίζουμε πολύ καλά ότι ο αυτοκράτορας Κωνσταντίνος ήρθε εδώ. Αφού όμως αλλάξατε γλώσσα, ήθη και ενδυμασία, ο παναγιότατος Πάπας θεώρησε ότι ούτε και σε σας αρέσει ο όρος Ρωμαίοι...Εμείς, Λομβαρδοί, Σάξονες, Φράγκοι, Λοθαρινοί, Βαυαροί, Σουηβοί, Βουργουνδοί περιφρονούμε τους Ρωμαίους σε τέτοιο βαθμό που για να προσβάλουμε τους εχθρούς μας τους αποκαλούμε Ρωμαίους, γιατί αυτή η ονομασία περικλείει αγένεια, δειλία, φιλαργυρία, ασωτία, απιστία και γενικά κάθε είδος κακίας».

Once a subject of debate in the piercing community, the Princess Albertina is becoming more popular as more women discover the joy of urethral stimulation.

This piercing is the female counterpart to the Prince Albert. With this piercing, the ring enters the urethra and exits through the bottom, about 3/8″ back from the urethral opening and into the opening of the vaginal canal. Jewelry is usually either a 10 gauge or 8 gauge captive bead ring with a small enough diameter to be unobtrusive during vaginal penetration. Akimbo Obwe’bwe, a 29-year-old zoo intern originally from Gabon, was found guilty of feeding sedatives to Big George, one of the zoo’s top attractions, and partaking in sexual activity with the sedated animal.

The Battle of Tsaritsyn was a military confrontation between Bolshevik forces and the White Army during the Russian Civil War. It was for control of the significant city and port on the Volga River in southwestern Russia. The battle resulted in a Bolshevik victory.

According to Soviet legend, the city was saved by the actions of the local chairman of the military committee, Joseph Stalin. Stalin urged his comrades to continue fighting and disobeyed direct orders from Moscow by recalling forces from the Caucasus, nicknamed Zhloba's 'Steel Division'. These forces were able to attack the White forces in the rear and defeat them, saving Tsaritsyn for the Bolsheviks. Three major engagements then developed around the city afterwards during the entire duration of the battle but were likewise less successful than the first one.

A temporary takeover of the city by White general Anton Denikin's troops occurred in June 1919. Major Ewen Cameron Bruce of the British Army had volunteered to command a British tank mission assisting the White Army. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order[1] for his bravery during the June 1919 battle for single-handedly storming and capturing the fortified city of Tsaritsyn, under heavy shell fire in a single tank; this led to the successful capture of over 40,000 prisoners. The fall of Tsaritsyn is viewed "as one of the key battles of the Russian Civil War" which greatly helped the White Russian Cause. Notable historian Sir Basil Henry Liddell Hart comments that Bruce's tank action during this battle is to be seen as "one of the most remarkable feats in the whole history of the Tank Corps."

However, Red Army forces under both Stalin and Voroshilov, this time aided by supplies and weapons that had recently arrived from Moscow, staged an all-out assault towards the city and retook it by January 1920. As a result, the defeated White Army, now reduced to mere numbers and in danger of destruction, then retreated towards the Crimean peninsula.

Aftermath

For these and later actions in the city of Tsaritsyn region, the city was renamed Stalingrad in 1925 to honor Stalin and his actions. About 17 years later the city would once again be a battlefield, this time for the decisive battle of the Eastern Front of World War II, the bloody Battle of Stalingrad. The city was renamed in 1961 to Volgograd by Nikita Khrushchev during his de-Stalinization reforms.
