The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of Eindhoven University
of Technology provides a Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) degree
program on systems architecting and designing software.
During this intensive and competitive two-year industry-oriented program trainees
focus on further developing their technical and non-technical competencies related
to the project-based systems architecting and designing software for large-scale
technology-intensive systems in various technical application domains.
During the last nine months of their program our trainees work on project in/for
industry (public private collaborations). In this context, we have worked very
successfully with multinational companies such as ASML, NXP, Océ, Philips Design,
Philips Medical Systems and Philips Research and with organizations such as TNO
Defence, Security, and Safety, TNO Information Communication Technology and
the Dutch Embedded Systems Institute.
Trainees who successfully complete all training and projects and at the end of the
two years fulfill all requirements receive a Professional Doctorate in Engineering
degree and are formally registered in the register of design engineers, which is
maintained by the Royal Institution of Engineers in the Netherlands.

Every year, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science provides a
limited number of opportunities for students and young professionals to acquire
a traineeship to allow them to participate in this two-year program. Such traineeships
are provided in the form of salaried employment contracts at the Department of
Mathematics and Computer Science (conforming to the Collective Employment
Agreement of Dutch universities) as a Technologisch Ontwerper in Opleiding (TOIO).
For the program from 1 October 2007 until 30 September 2009 there are only a few
traineeships still available. These are awarded based on a competitive selection.

a system/software architect/designer in (Dutch) industry, then I would like to
