Ακριβώς. Πως γίνεται να τον αντιπαθούν αυτόν τον άνθρωπο πραγματικά κάνει side quests στα side quests. Κομματάρα το επόμενο που θα ποστάρει ο Giopan (το βλέπω στην κρυστάλλινη σφαίρα μου) από την θρυλική δισκάρα From The Lions Mouth στην Korova Records που το ψάχναμε σε βινύλιο σαν να ήταν θησαυρός αφού είχαν έρθει μόλις 4 αντίτυπα στην πρώτη κυκλοφορία του δίσκου από την άγνωστη μικρή και ανεξάρτητη εταιρία που δεν μπορούσε καν να ανταποκριθεί στην παγκόσμια ζήτηση του δίσκου και μόνο μετά από 20 χρόνια κυκλοφόρησαν επανέκδοση και σε CD που πάλι ήταν λίγα αντίτυπα . Όταν το βρήκα να το έχει μια κοπέλα μαζί της το καλοκαίρι της πρόσφερα 20€ και της έδινα την ταυτότητα μου για να δεχτεί να μου το δανείσει για 30 λεπτά της ώρας και πάλι μου βγάλε την πίστη για να μου το δανείσει αφού εγγυήθηκε και ο ιδιοκτήτης της καφετερίας που είμασταν ότι με ξέρει.
Μετά το έκανα rip σε wav και σε flac και σε mp3 320 kbps και αργότερα το ανέβασα σε rapid share οπότε μου στείλανε κάτι δικηγόροι επίσημο απειλητικό email ότι θα έχω συνέπειες και τους απάντησα ότι γράφω τα copywrites τους εκεί που δεν πιάνει αφού (το απόλυτο ψάρωμα) είμαι (δήθεν) απόγονος του Δημόκριτου   που ανακάλυψε το άτομο πάνω στο οποίο βασίζονται και οι ηχογραφήσεις, ακόμα και οι ΑΑD όπως ο δίσκος των Sound  και οι online πωλήσεις και τα Cd και τους είπα ότι ζητάω 7.936.883.284.984$ για κάθε ηλεκτρόνιο που πάλλεται σε όλο τον πλανήτη ως κάτοχος του copyright της ανακάλυψης του Δημόκριτου στον οποίο χρωστάνε και δεν έχουν πληρώσει τίποτα όλοι τους ενώ εγώ έχω αγοράσει τελικά τον δίσκο και σε βινύλιο και σε CD

Δεν απάντησαν ξανά οι κολώστρες  

αααα τώρα θυμήθηκα ότι το είχα στείλει και στην Electroauth παλιά με ένα μικρό σεντονάκι

Ο σημερινός Δίσκος είναι (κατά την ταπεινή μου γνώμη) ένας από τους καλύτερους δίσκους της δεκαετίας του '80 (όχι, είναι, επιμένω), μαζί με το Doolittle των Pixies, το The Joshua Tree των U2 και τα Final Cut & A Momentary Laps Of Reason των Pink Floyd κτλ κτλ. και ταιριάζει και με την εποχή...
Στα μέσα και τέλη της δεκαετίας του '80 όποιος κωλόφαρδος είχε αυτό το πανσπάνιο βινύλιο (λόγω του οτι η Korova ήταν μια μικρή ανεξάρτητη δισκογραφική και τον έβγαλε σε πολύ λίγα αντίτυπα) ερχόταν αντιμέτωπος με βλέμματα ζήλιας και φθόνου, αφού σε μια πολυαναμενόμενη επανακυκλοφορία του και παρά τις παραγγελίες ήρθαν μόνο καμιά δεκαριά αντίτυπα σε όλα τα δισκάδικα της Θεσσαλονίκης. Όποιος πρόλαβες τους Sound αγόρασε :-P
[Ανούσια παρένθεση: Όταν σε κάποια φάση στην 3η Γυμνασίου το βρήκε δανεικό για 3 μέρες ο πάνκης & new-waveάς του σχολείου μας και διπλανός μου στο θρανίο, ο Θάνος, έκανε σαν να πέτυχε το Τζόκερ και με "έχωσε" (και καλά έκανε) να τον γράψω από το δανεικό βινύλιο σε 17 κασσέτες αντίγραφα για 15 άλλα "αποβράσματα της κοινωνίας" που το έψαχναν απεγνωσμένα εδώ και χρόνια !!! Από την επόμενη εβδομάδα είχα την συμπάθεια των μισών πάνκηδων & new-wave άδων της πόλης και πλήρη ασυλία στο άβατον της Προξένου Κορομηλά (όχι οτι πολυπήγαινα εκεί στο Berlin, το Snoopy & το Λούκυ Λουκ, την εποχή που δεν τολμούσε να περάσει από εκεί αστυνομικός ούτε για πλάκα) αφού μαθεύτηκε οτι κάποιος έκατσε και έγραψε 17 φορές σε 3 μέρες έναν δίσκο για παντελώς αγνώστους του, και φυσικά ούτε καν συζήτηση για φράγκα τότε, Δεν υπήρχε καλύτερη αμοιβή από την κόπια που μου έμεινε και εμένα. Κασσέτα TDK MX 60 μετάλλου ήταν. Ήχος HD για τότε.
Δεν ξέρω πόσοι έχετε γράψει κασσέτα από βινύλιο, αλλά είναι ένα σιχτίρι, ειδικά αν έχεις και την κατσάδα πάνω απ΄ το κεφάλι σου "Κάθεσαι και γράφεις κασσέτες αντί να διαβάσεις?" ] 
Τέλος πάντων, ο δίσκος θεωρείται All Time Classic και, πλέον, χάρη στην "τεχνολογία διαμοιρασμού αρχείων" δεν χρειάζεται να κάνετε όλο αυτόν τον κόπο που κάναμε τότε για να ακούσουμε 45 λεπτά μουσικής. 

Και τώρα που μπορείτε να το βρείτε με μερικά κλικ σε .mp3 ποιότητας 320 kbps (CD Quality)
θέλετε να μου πείτε οτι δε θα το κατεβάσετε? 

Το εκπληκτικό εξώφυλλο και μόνο, κανονικά θα έφτανε ως επιχείρημα για να σας πείσω, όσους δεν έχετε ήδη τον δίσκο (και κανονικά έπρεπε να
μαστιγωθείτε δια παραδειγματισμόν) οτι αποτελεί προαπαιτούμενο (κάτι σαν τα Κυκλώματα Ι) κάθε δισκοθήκης που σέβεται τον εαυτό της και δεν
αποτελείται από σκυλάδικα.

Jonathan Garrett takes the helm for the latest in our Unspun Heroes series, taking a look at The Sound's underrated 1981 album 'From The Lions Mouth'

Some burn out. Others fade away. Then there are those, like The Sound, who never get the chance to do either. Fronted by the mercurial Adrian Borland, the south London post-punk outfit eluded the attention of almost everyone in their day while peers like Joy Division and Echo & the Bunnymen (with whom they shared a label - Korova) were elevated to the status of gods among men. Yet the band still somehow managed, against all cruel indifference, to soldier on for nearly a decade and release five studio albums, none stronger than the one that turns 30 this year, 'From The Lions Mouth'.

Despite its age, The Sound’s sophomore record still stands as a ferocious, vital document. Coming off the broad political sloganeering of their 1980 debut 'Jeopardy', '...Lions Mouth''s probing introspection can be a jarring, discomfiting listen at first. The lyrics, cut from the same cloth as Joy Division’s 'Closer' or the Manic Street Preachers’ 'The Holy Bible', are both unsparing and unrelentingly bleak, in case song titles like “Skeletons” and “New Dark Age” didn’t provide the tipoff. But unlike many of his peers and as Andy Gill astutely pointed out in the original '81 NME review, Borland was careful to avoid “pessimistic wallowing.” Indeed, the triumphant urgency of tracks like 'Sense of Purpose' [below] and 'Contact the Fact' belie their lyrical despondence, with Borland’s searing fretwork and Max Mayers’ sharp synth lines acting as shots of adrenaline throughout.

And it’s this tension—between Borland’s dark worldview and his undeniable gift for melody—that makes '…Lions Mouth' such a compelling, wrenching listen: The Sound walk the tightrope for over 40 minutes without managing to fall to either side. Of course, knowing what came after, it’s hard to resist the urge to read into Borland’s lyrics. Borland would suffer a well-documented, prolonged bout with mental illness, ending when he threw himself in front of a train in 1999. Drummer Michael Dudley claims that the signs weren’t apparent and the band didn’t become “worried until around about '85 or '86,” but lines like “You can take what you want from me / Because I know you hate it when I’m crazy” ('Contact the Fact') and “When you reach the end of your tether / it’s because it wasn’t strong enough” ('Winning') leave little doubt that Borland was already wrestling demons of some description during the album's writing sessions.

Some will certainly be drawn to the album in the hopes for some window into Borland’s troubled mental state, but 'From The Lions Mouth' isn’t designed to reward morbid curiosity. What’s so striking in listening all these years later - even during the record’s darkest moments - is how alive it sounds. Borland may be long gone, but 'From The Lions Mouth' is nothing short of bracingly immediate.

Sadly, The Sound and their finest release have remained largely undiscovered, relegated to a mere historical footnote. While the band’s entire Korova catalogue was issued for the first time on CD in 2002 by Renascent, the albums are no longer available for direct purchase. iTunes does not carry the digital downloads, and the vinyl records appear on eBay sporadically at best. On its 30th anniversary, 'From The Lions Mouth' - and indeed The Sound - deserves a better fate.

From The Lions Mouth is even better. While it doesn't have the hard-hitting singles of Jeopardy, it has a shimmering, cohesive fusion of lyrics and sound. The album reaches a dark apex with "Possession" ("There's a devil in me/Trying to show his face") and the red hot "The Fire" ("Drawn towards the heat/Too fierce to contain"), and "New Dark Age," with thudding kettle drums of doom. The press went wild for it, but sales were dismal. Possibly because the album was too unique. It didn't fit neatly into any of the synth pop/new wave/new romantic stuff that was popular in '81. Nor did it have the bombast that would make Echo & the Bunnymen, U2 and Simple Minds so popular just a couple years later. Korova dumped The Sound onto its parent company, WEA as a write-off, who pressured them to go more commercial.

How The Sound aren't regarded as one of the greatest British bands is beyond be me and is surely one of musics greatest travesties. Whilst the likes of The Cure and U2 are lauded to the rooftops, The Sound seem to have been largely forgotten. However, listening to From The Lions Mouth gives me a sense of superiority over other music fans who do not know about The Sound. Those of us in the know understand how special this band are.


Produced by Hugh Jones (also responsible for The Bunnymen's equally brilliant Heaven Up Here), From The Lions Mouth is a joy throughout and fully deserving of its forgotten classic status. This album proves that Adrian Borland was an awseome guitarist and along with Will Sergeant and Johnny Marr, among the best of his generation.


Lyrical themes of despair and isolation do indeed pervade the album and it is obvious that Adrian Borland was heavily influenced by Ian Curtis. However, unlike Curtis, I believe Borland could see hope beyond the despair. This is evident in the lyrics to the albums opening track, Winning - "I was gonna drown, then I started swimming/I was going down, then I started winning." This gives From The Lions Mouth an uplifting quality that was largely absent from Unknown Pleasures and Closer.


One of the best albums of the 80's, or any other decade for that matter.
