what should we say about this unbelievable tune. we could tell a lot of stories. for example: we worked for ZYX Music, the company which also had a label deal for GAS (Germany / Austria / Switzerland).we worked at ZYX as an A&R Manager in general and as a label manager regrading the Strictly Rhythm Connection. the track caused such a storm, that we even got phone calls from other labels like MFS / Berlin, label of Paul van Dyk at the time, good friends of ours, that they desperetaley would like to licence the tune. But of course this tune was so ahead of everything other... that we released it on our own... sold many many copies on vinyl and CD over months... and we assume even today the track is selling well... as it is also today just outstanding...

Making his debut on DARKMTTR, the ever-talented and respected producer Trex has delivered a groundbreaking four-track EP that takes us deep into the realms of glitchy, minimal, atmospheric drum and bass. Trex, a key player in the scene, has consistently impressed with his experimental take on D&B, and his latest release, ‘Nice It Up’, only continues that legacy. Packed with heavy rollers, steppers, and industrial soundscapes, this EP is a journey through the far reaches of sound design.

The title track ‘Nice It Up’ sets the tone right from the start. It’s a melodic stepper that subtly nods to the modern jump-up sound. The intro draws you in with ethereal, atmospheric dub elements and a deep, vibing vocal. But don’t get too comfortable—soon enough, the intensity builds, leading to a bass-heavy drop that rolls the track into a minimal yet melodic journey. The glitches and wobbles add texture to the tune, making it feel fresh and unique. If you’re looking for a track that evolves and pulls you deeper with each listen, ‘Nice It Up’ is your vibe.

Following that, we move into ‘Upright’, a collaboration between Trex and Lavance. This one brings a darker, grittier energy with haunting, sinister vocals. The track’s build-up lulls you into a false sense of calm, before a sudden drop slams you into a growly, wobbly bassline that’s impossible to ignore. ‘Upright’ is a minimal roller with a heavy industrial vibe that takes the EP into even deeper territory, showing the magic that happens when Trex and Lavance combine forces.

Next up is ‘Hollow Holler’, a track that emerges from the weight of ‘Upright’ while continuing to ramp up the intensity. Trex leans heavily into a dystopian, industrial soundscape here, crafting a sonic landscape that feels like a brutalist vision of the future. With hectic layers of sound and a call-and-response bassline that feels like a conversation between alien robots, ‘Hollow Holler’ pulls you into its sci-fi world and doesn’t let go.

The EP closes out with ‘Escargot’, which picks up where the previous tracks left off with its futuristic, sci-fi inspired vibe. Right from the start, ‘Escargot’ hits with a bouncy, warm energy. Trex plays with hollow, metallic textures, warped effects, and shutter sounds, creating a deeply cinematic and experimental tune. The track eventually switches to a half-tempo groove, rolling out a funky yet intricate finish to the EP.
