ντάξει μπορεί οι nofx να είναι παντελώς πανηλίθιοι αλλά αυτό το κομμάτι που στην ουσία είναι ατάλαντοι nirvana λέει μερικά απλά πράματα για την αποτυχημένη αμερικανική και μη, middle-class, suburban οικογενεια, για την πραγματική ανισότητα των φύλων, και για την πυρηνική οικογένεια στον καπιταλισμό γενικότερα. Ή μάλλον δεν λέει πράματα, απλά όπως συνηθίζει να κάνει το πανκ αρνείται, γκρινιαζει, σου δέχνει τι δεν είναι καλό, τι είναι κακό. Μερικές φορές και αυτό δημιουργικό είναι...

At the very beginning of David Lynch’s Blue Velvet, we see an idyllic, American small town. What can be more normal than father of the family, in front of a white clean house, watering the lawn? But all of a sudden, father has a heart seizure, falls down to the grass. And then, instead of showing the family confused, calling for an ambulance, whatever, Lynch does something typically Lynchian. The camera moves extremely close to the grass, even penetrates the grass, and we see what is the real of this idyllic green lawn.

We should not forget this, how this happens precisely when father has a seizure. That is to say when, symbolically, the paternal authority breaks down.

[...]The band that came to earn the title of Russia’s fi rst punk band –
Avtomaticheskie Udovletvoriteli (The Automatic Satisfiers), or AU for
short – grew out of this environment. AU were formed in Leningrad in 1979
by Andrei Panov (1960–98), or Svin (The Swine) as he was referred to on the
scene. The rock critic Artemy Troitsky makes the connection between AU and
punk, arguing that they successfully combined elements of Western punk as
a philosophy of universal negation with local Russian traditions of workingclass
urban lore (Troitsky 1990 : 15). A fi rst-time listener today would probably
fi le AU under post-punk. The band’s lead singer and front man Panov,
however, refused to recognise the band as either punk or post-punk at the
time. In a 1981 interview with the samizdat fanzine Roksi , he defi ned AU as
opposed to The Sex Pistols:
PANOV: Punk people – that’s over there, here we have some stinking little
skunks. […] [W]e’re not musicians, and we don’t count ourselves as such,
we don’t pose. […]
INTERVIEWER: Now you are playing punk rock.
PANOV: Anarchistic rock. […] we’re anti-magnetic to The Sex Pistols. They
are the classics and we are fighting them. We fight them because we can’t
be better than them. It’s a really ingenious option. That there is nothing
worse than what we play and that we are proper loafers, no-one can deny.
[W]e are not punk people, only […] funnily misbehaving. […] Remember,
we are ordinary people. You may say we are cute and intelligent […] we
can find a common language with any bloke [ muzhik ] at a beer stand, we
are as one with them, and we beat up intellectuals.

By late 1980 Panov had already cultivated a reputation on the Leningrad
rock scene as an outrageous drunkard and public shocker. His provocative
behaviour led to AU being barred from active involvement in the Leningrad
Rock Club, whose organisers he viewed as elitist and objects for ridicule. Left
on the margins of the Leningrad rock scene, AU would perform at irregular
intervals and leave relatively few recordings, compared to leading rock bands
of the day. Despite this, they managed to establish punk as a scandalous
and primitive aesthetics at the fringes of Russian rock (Incognito 1983 ) and
to leave a lasting imprint on the Leningrad scene of the 1980s. AU are also
credited with what is arguably the fi rst punk recording in the USSR. One of
their Moscow gigs was recorded using a single microphone and subsequently
released in magnitizdat as the 1981 album ‘ Pervyi priezd v Moskvu ’ (‘First
time in Moscow’).[...]
