The Future Sound of London (often abbreviated FSOL) is a British electronic music duo composed of Garry Cobain and Brian Dougans. They have been described as a "boundary-pushing" electronic act,[1] covering techno, ambient, house music, trip hop, psychedelia, and dub.[2]

While keeping an enigmatic image and releasing music under many aliases, the band found commercial success with singles "Papua New Guinea" (1991), "Cascade" (1993), and albums Lifeforms (1994) and Dead Cities (1996). In recent years, the duo has become more candid with their fanbase online.

History
Formation
Garry Cobain and Brian Dougans met in the mid-1980s while studying electronics at university in Manchester, England. Dougans had already been making electronic music, working between Glasgow and Manchester, when the pair first began working together in local clubs. In 1988, Dougans embarked on a project for a graphic studio Stakker, which resulted with a single "Stakker Humanoid" that reached number 17 in the UK charts, introducing acid house to mainstream audience.[3] Cobain contributed to the accompanying album Global.

In the following years the pair produced music under a variety of aliases, releasing a number of singles and EPs, including "Q" and "Metropolis", later featured on the 1992 compilation Earthbeat.

In 1992, Cobain and Dougans released their debut, techno-driven album together, Accelerator. It was followed by "Papua New Guinea", a single based on a sample from "Dawn of the Iconoclast" by Dead Can Dance, and a bassline from "Radio Babylon" by Meat Beat Manifesto. In 1992, after the chart success and several accolades [4][5] of "Papua New Guinea", Virgin Records signed the band with free rein to experiment.

This compilation is an impressive ambient compilation. It suits both, the people who want to listen to relaxing ambient music and those who want to hear melodi and electronic ambient sounds. This compilation is not one of those with 10 sampled guitars and pianos playing at the same time, it is a pure electronic ambient journey, which is not beatless, where you have to wait for something to happen for a long time but it is straight forward. The electronic sounds of each track come close to goa trance and remain fresh and untouched. It is modern sounding ambient music with beats, like you would hear in documentaries about the future, living on mars and skyscraper towns. All tracks tell a story and were put together very lovely.
The best track in my opinion by the way is Zerotonine - Lunatic. This track si a true story and comes very close to goa trance. It is not a wonder since Zerotonine has produced goa trance in the ninetees himself, it can be found on the mind Rewind compilation. Lunatic is a track with a unique atmosphere, it is as scary as a snowy day in the alps, but still has some warmth to it. The melodies will make your sweat go down your back and the string will set you in such a deep state of mind, you will not know what is happening to you. Lunatic is definatly a mindboggling song, it does not attract emotional feelings such as euphoria but instead sets you in a state of mind like in the blue hour. Not only is the track emotional and hits you with deep impact, it is also one of the most complicated electronic ambient works I have ever heart and this could be the reason why no other artist has tried to create a similar tune to this one. The track is way too underrated and is one of the best ambient tracks ever released,

The whole compilation is impresive, but this track is on another level.

Profile: Northern Irish multi genre electronic music artist from Belfast, now lives in Cologne (Köln) Germany. Runs his own Signature Records label, focusing mainly on his own music.
He helped to operate the Soul:R imprint with Marcus Intalex and ST Files, the label ceased operations in 2018 after Marcus passed away in 2017.

Dominick Martin, better known by his stage name Calibre, is a Northern Irish drum and bass music producer and DJ from Belfast. He started producing at a young age. He is a classically trained musician, playing a variety of musical instruments. Martin started producing Drum and Bass in 1995 and his first signed release was credited under the now defunct Quadrophonic record label.[1][failed verification]

He soon came to the attention of drum and bass DJ Fabio, who signed Calibre to his record label, Creative Source.[2] While studying Fine Arts at the University of Ulster in Belfast, he became interested in the music of John Cage whose work was influential in titling Martin's first album release Musique Concrète in 2001. Since his initial releases in 2001, Martin has been known for his consistent signature style and sound.

Short Circuits Magazine refers to him as "one of the quietest people in drum and bass". Although one of the scene's most prolific producers, he shares tracks with only a small circle of friends and many of his works remain unreleased. Beginning in 2007, the 'Shelflife' series of albums were created as a way of sharing previously unreleased productions with his fans.

Over 20 years of music production, he has self-published over 60 singles and 20+ albums. Also, according to UKF as of 2014, none of his original productions have ever been officially remixed.[3]

Basement Freaks

Biography
Basement Freaks project was born in 2005 by George Fotiadis a.k.a Dj Jorhe, from Thessaloniki - Greece. He started producing music at the basement as "INTOCYRCLE" in early 2000. During these years Jorhe was infected from the metropolis sound and started mixing urban styles such as HipHop – Funk – Disco – Dub & Breakbeat.

Debut CD Album "Urban Jungle" was released in 2006 by Music Kitchen, Greece.

For the past 2 years, the project has been active, remixing tracks for many respected artists while at the same time, taking part in DJ gigs, and most recently releasing their debut vinyl on a new label based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA called South City Recordings.

In September 2006 Jorhe joined a new electro an fast uprising project 9WEST. He also formed a jammin live project with various musicians using natural organs like the sax and percussions.

He was a guest in many parties and events all around Greece and has played together with Kraak n Smaak, Shanti Roots,Inverse Cinematics, Jeru di Damaga,K Bonus,Emee Grant,Quincy Joints,Balkan Express and many more.

In 2007 Dj Jorge gets on the road with a small tour in Europe where he played on several venues such as: Flex Club (Vienna) Gebaude9 (Cologne) Tageins (Freiburg) Shipraje (Beograd) Arcadium (Graz).

Other labels where Basement Freaks have released tracks are ESL Music, Rephrase Music, Timewarp music, Knowfoowl Records, Jazzspace & Bass, Innvision Records, Ticklejunk Recordings and Goodgrooves Recordings.
