Φαντασία στα ύψη

Η δημιουργικότητα και η φαντασία στο αποκορύφωμά της, στην πρόταση αμερικανικού αρχιτεκτονικού γραφείου στην κυβέρνηση της Ισλανδίας, για τοποθέτηση πυλώνων υψηλής τάσης με ανθρώπινη μορφή, σε διάφορες στάσεις

Η δημιουργική πρόταση του αμερικανικού αρχιτεκτονικού γραφείου Choi + Shine, να τοποθετήσει στην Ισλανδία πυλώνες με ανθρώπινη μορφή μετατρέποντας μια αδιάφορη οπτικά δημιουργία σε έργο τέχνης το έκανε να κερδίσει βραβείο αρχιτεκτονικής.

Η πρόταση με το κωδικό όνομα "η Γη των γιγάντων", περιλαμβάνει την τοποθέτηση ηλεκτρικών πυλώνων που θα έχουν ανθρώπινη μορφή σε διάφορες στάσεις δείχνοντας τη διάθεσή τους ανάλογα με το περιβάλλον που θα πλαισιώσουν.

Όπως ανέφεραν οι αρχιτέκτονες, που βρίσκονται πίσω από το project, οι ανθρωποειδείς πυλώνες θα είναι ισχυροί και σεμνοί και θα αποτελέσουν μια σύγχρονη προσέγγιση πάνω στα αρχαία αγάλματα της νήσου του Πάσχα.

Σύμφωνα με ανάλογες προτάσεις που κατατέθηκαν σε ηλεκτρική εταιρεία της Ισλανδίας, οι πυλώνες θα έχουν περίπου 40 μέτρα ύψος και θα κατασκευαστούν από μέταλλο, γυαλί και τσιμέντο.




Μάλιστα, παρά την εντυπωσιακή τους όψη το κόστος θα είναι ιδιαιτέρως χαμηλό. Όπως ανέφερε η εταιρεία, οι πυλώνες αυτοί θα γίνουν σημαντικά μνημεία στη περιοχή, καθώς η αρχιτεκτονική τους θα τους δώσει μια διαφορετική αισθητική  πέραν της τυπικής λειτουργικής κατασκευής τους.

Έτσι, η Γη των γιγάντων με τη φαντασία και την καινοτομία που τη διαπνέει κατάφερε να συμπεριληφθεί ανάμεσα στους τέσσερις νικητές του ετήσιου βραβείο αρχιτεκτονικής του BSA Unbuilt, το οποίο αναγνωρίζει την καινοτομική σκέψη.

Kansai International Airport (関西国際空港 Kansai Kokusai Kūkō?) (IATA: KIX, ICAO: RJBB) is an international airport located on an artificial island in the middle of Osaka Bay, 38 km (24 mi) southwest of Ōsaka Station,[1] off the shore of the cities of Sennan and Izumisano and the town of Tajiri in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. It should not be confused with Osaka International Airport, which is closer to the city and now handles only domestic flights.

Oscar Niemeyer: Brazilian Architect dies at 104

The architect of Niteroi Contemporary Art Museum in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil has died. Oscar Niemeyer was considered the patriarch of modern architecture and was 104 years old. The architect's death was caused by a worsening respiratory infection.

Oscar Ribeiro de Almeida Niemeyer Soares Filho (15 December 1907 – 5 December 2012), known as Oscar Niemeyer, was a Brazilian architect who is considered one of the key figures in the development of modern architecture. Niemeyer was best known for his design of civic buildings for Brasília, a planned city which became Brazil's capital in 1960, as well as his collaboration with other architects on the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. His exploration of the aesthetic possibilities of reinforced concrete was highly infuential on the architecture of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

The Philips Pavilion was a World's Fair pavilion designed for Expo '58 in Brussels by the office of Le Corbusier. Commissioned by Philips, an electronics company based in the Netherlands, the pavilion was designed to house a multimedia spectacle that celebrated postwar technological progress. Because Corbusier was busy with the planning of Chandigarh, much of the project management was assigned to Iannis Xenakis, who was also an experimental composer and was influenced in the design by his composition Metastaseis.

The pavilion is a cluster of nine hyperbolic paraboloids in which music, Edgar Varèse's Poème électronique, was spatialized by sound projectionists using telephone dials. The speakers were set into the walls, which were coated in asbestos, creating a textured look to the walls. Varèse drew up a detailed spatialization scheme for the entire piece which made great use of the physical layout of the pavilion, especially the height of it. The asbestos hardened the walls which created a cavernous acoustic. As audiences entered and exited the building Xenakis's musique concrète composition Concret PH was heard.

St. Mary's Cathedral (東京カテドラル聖マリア大聖堂 Tōkyō Katedoraru Sei Maria Daiseidō) is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tokyo. It is located in the Sekiguchi neighborhood of Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan.

The original wooden structure, constructed in 1899 in the Gothic style, was destroyed during the air raids on Tokyo during World War II.[1] The present church, designed by Kenzo Tange, was completed in 1964. Tange was assisted by Wilhelm Schlombs, architect to the Archdiocese of Cologne, construction engineer Yoshikatsu Tsuboi, who had worked with Tange on previous projects, and Swiss architect Max Lechner.

The layout of the building is in the form of a cross, from which eight hyperbolic parabolas rise in a manner similar to a contemporary landmark cathedral located in San Francisco, also referred to as St. Mary's Cathedral. The parabolas open upwards to form a cross of light, which continues vertically along the length of the four facades. To this rhomboid volume other secondary constructions are added, including the baptistry and the baptismal font. The rectangular shapes contrast with the symbolic character of the cathedral. The bell tower is 61.6 m (202 ft) high, standing a short distance away from the main building. The exterior cladding is made of stainless steel.[2] In 2004 a large organ built by Italian firm Mascioni was installed.[3]
