Trance is a genre of electronic music[7] that emerged from the British new-age music scene and the early 1990s German techno and hardcore scenes.[2][3] At the same time trance music was developing in Europe, the genre was also gathering a following in the Indian state of Goa.[10]

Trance music is characterized by a tempo lying between 110–150 bpm (BPM),[6] repeating melodic phrases,[6] and a musical form that distinctly builds tension and elements throughout a track often culminating in 1 to 2 "peaks" or "drops".[6] Although trance is a genre of its own, it liberally incorporates influences from other musical styles such as techno,[4][2] house,[1][2] pop,[4] chill-out,[4] classical music,[4][5] tech house, ambient, and film music.[5]

A trance is a state of hypnotism and heightened consciousness.[11] This is portrayed in trance music by the mixing of layers with distinctly foreshadowed build-up and release. A common characteristic of trance music is a mid-song climax followed by a soft breakdown disposing of beats and percussion entirely,[4][6] leaving the melody or atmospherics to stand alone for an extended period before gradually building up again. Trance tracks are often lengthy to allow for such progression and commonly have sufficiently sparse opening and closing sections to facilitate mixing by DJs.[citation needed]

Trance is mostly instrumental, although vocals can be mixed in: typically they are performed by mezzo-soprano to soprano female soloists, often without a traditional verse/chorus structure. Structured vocal form in trance music forms the basis of the vocal trance subgenre, which has been described as "grand, soaring, and operatic" and "ethereal female leads floating amongst the synths". However, male singers, such as Jonathan Mendelsohn, are also featured.[12][13]

History

The "Trance" name may refer to an induced emotional feeling, high, euphoria, chills, or uplifting rush that listeners claim to experience, or it may indicate an actual trance-like state the earliest forms of this music attempted to emulate in the 1990s before the genre's focus changed.

Another possible antecedent is Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima's electronic soundtracks for the Streets of Rage series of video games from 1991 to 1994.[14][15][16] It was promoted by the well-known UK club-night "Megatripolis" (London, at Heaven on Thursdays) whose scene catapulted it to international fame.[verification needed]

Examples of early trance releases include but are not limited to German duo Jam & Spoon's 1992 12" Single remix of the 1990 song "The Age Of Love",[1] and German duo Dance 2 Trance's 1990 track "We Came in Peace".[6]

The writer Bom Coen traces the roots of trance to Paul van Dyk's 1993 remix of Humate's "Love Stimulation".[1] However, Van Dyk's trance origins can be traced further back to his work with Visions of Shiva, being the first tracks he released[17] In subsequent years, one genre, vocal trance, arose as the combination of progressive elements and pop music,[4] and the development of another subgenre, epic trance, finds some of its origins in classical music,[4] with film music also being influential.[5]

Trance was arguably at its commercial peak in the second part of 1990s and early 2000s.[18][19]

"Age of Love" is the 1990 self-titled track by the Age of Love. It is notable as an early popular example of trance music.[3]

Released as a single in 1990 on the Belgian label Diki Records,[4] it was produced by Bruno Sanchioni and Giuseppe Cherchia from Italy,[5] with vocals by Karen Mulder.

In 1992, the React label released Jam and Spoon's "Watch Out For Stella" remix,[6] which gained more popularity than the original track and opened up opportunities for remixes by artists such as Paul Van Dyk,[7] and Garry Creen. To this day, the track continues to be remixed and featured on compilations. As of February 2007, the online resource Discogs has cataloged a total of 73 known releases, and 346 appearances on compilations. The track was featured in the hit film based on the UK club scene, Human Traffic.

Humate
Humate was until 1996 a German trance group, then just the German record producer Gerret Frerichs, who has released singles with record labels such as MFS and Superstition. His work has been featured on many compilation albums including the Global Underground series, Sasha and John Digweed's Northern Exposure series and the Cafe Del Mar series. Oliver Huntemann and Patrick Kjonberg are former members of Humate.

Μια (υπο)κατηγορία μόνο της Trance είναι η Goa ή Psychedelic Trance που είναι μεν πολλή γνωστή σήμερα αλλά όταν ρωτάω "τι εννοείς trance" απαντάνε μόνο Talamasca, δηλαδή ένα μόνο δημιουργό από ένα μία μόνο υποκατηγορία, αφού δε ξέρουν κανένα άλλο όνομα οι γνωστοί και ως "βάλε trance".

Profile:
Goa trance label based in UK, founded by Ron Rothfield, Graham Wood, Ian St. Paul and Richard Bloor in 1994.

TIP Records became an influential label in the history of goa trance. TIP was among the first to embrace a darker sound in goa trance and found time to bring on the techtrance sound (Organic Noise) before the label folded in 1998 after the collapse of their distributor Flying Records (UK).
The label reappeared as a partnership between Ron Rothfield and Richard Bloor under the new name of TIP.World in 1999, with a relatively new artist roster, new distributor and new electro and breaks sub label 10 Kilo.

TIP Records relaunched in November 2009 and is currently based in Barcelona, Spain.

Chris Cowie has recorded and released around 150 12" solo releases under many aliases during his career and continues to release quality productions on many labels.
Described as "The Master Of Funk Techno" by Carl Cox, Chris has now dropped all his aliases and exclusively DJ's and produces under his own name, pushing his sound around the globe. He has performed around the world from Russia and China to Australia and the US.
Two of his solo albums, 'Best Behaviour' and Vegas Soul 'Pure' were voted best albums of the year in many UK magazines. His 'Pure' Album came 6th place out of 100 in the Highly Acclaimed UK Dance Muzik Magazine Awards.
He was also nominated for the highly prized BBC 'Radio One Essential Mix' of the year along with 5 other DJ's all of which are massive names in the dance scene. "I didn't win, the honors went to a joint back to back DJ set with Sasha and Darren Emerson which is hard tag team to beat. But I was very happy to be nominated".
DJ's from all genres of dance music have used his tracks on their mix CDs. From Jeff Mills and Laurent Garnier to Danny Tenaglia, Carl Cox, and Paul Oakenfold.

Psytrance Artist Josef Bansi Quinteros Of G.M.S Has Passed Away

This morning, psytrance keyboardist Josef ‘Bansi’ Quinteros of G.M.S passed away in Amsterdam. Diagnosed with a rare blood cancer a year and a half ago, he battled the illness but kept on making music and performing around the world. This news comes to us with great sadness. His musical legacy’s long-lasting impact will be remembered and stay with us for years to come.

It is with great sadness we found out that Joseph Quinteros, Bansi of GMS, has passed away this morning in
Amsterdam. Bansi was diagnosed with cancer a year and a half ago, battled the illness, kept on making music and
even performing around the world. He was 42 years old.

Bansi was most know as half of GMS (Growling Mad Scientists) together with Shajahan ‘Riktam’ Matkin. The duo also
produced more technoish beats as Riktam & Bansi, and as Zorba. But Bansi (usually together with Riktam) was also
part of countless other projects such as: 1200 Micrograms (with Riktam, Raja Ram & DJ Chicago), 3 Of Life (with
Riktam & Pixel), Alien Jesus (with Riktam & Space Tribe), C.R.M.B., Electric Scientists, GLO, Growlmonizer,
Soundaholix, Systembusters and countless other collaborations.

Originally formed in 1994, G.M.S (Growling Mad Scientists) current members are Bansi Quinteros & Riktam Matkin,
Dutch music producers based in Ibiza. The former members of the band were Sebastian Claro, and Yakov Biton from

Βρε κοίτα που τρώμε και κράξιμο . Έκανα το τόπικ που δεν υπήρχε, γέμισα και 4 σελίδες με λήμματα στο Wikipedia και κομμάτια και ήρθε τώρα που το θυμήθηκε ο oriOn gel  :D :P ενα ωραίο gel δλδ και μας την λέει. O Gel απ' τον Ωρίωνα κατά της πυρίτιδας... Θα ποστάρουμε και άλλα κύριε, πως κάνετε έτσι, και γιατί δε τα ποστάρετε εσείς κύριε? Στον Ωρίωνα έχετε καλύτερα τόπικ κύριε?  ^knuppel^

Η αλήθεια είναι ότι σε εσένα δίνω τα εύσημα που άνοιξες το τόπικ. Το κράξιμο είναι κατά παντός υπευθύνου που δεν έχει φτάσει το τόπικ στις 20 σελίδες. Βάζω και εμένα μέσα που δεν το είχα πάρει χαμπάρι τόσο καιρό.

Στο Ωρίωνα που έχω πάει κανά δυο φορές, με αστρική προβολή, δεν έχω βρει κατι παρόμοιο.  :D :D

Title track "The Orange Theme" is based on Wendy Carlos' Title Music From A Clockwork Orange (1972), in turn based on Henry Purcell's "March" from "Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary" (1695).
Originally released in 1994 with the B-Side 'Instrospective'. Remixed in 1995 by Cygnus X (this remix can be found on their album 'Hypermetrical'), Blu Peter and Red Jerry.
A new batch of remixes came in 1999 by: Moonman (Ferry Corsten) / Mark Van Dale With Enrico / Push / Bervoets & De Goeij / SolarStone / Man With No Name / Blue Alphabet.
Covered in 2004 by Martin Roth & Frank Ellrich / Brain Inc.
