Title: PhD σε Ιατρικη Ρομποτική, στο εργαστηριο ρομποτικης του Μπριστολ Post by: Tonia on March 09, 2018, 03:19:53 am Applications are invited for two Postgraduate Research studentships at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory, UWE Bristol.
The project will be undertaken within the Robotics Engineering and Computing for Healthcare Group at Bristol Robotics Laboratory. The studentships are funded by the Above and Beyond, the local charity raising funds for Bristol City Centre hospitals. The successful applicants will work closely with clinical leads from Bristol Royal Infirmary, Professors Bahl, Persad and Calaway and the research team at Bristol Robotics Laboratory. The position is available to start in May 2018 (or earlier by agreement). Background of the project Brachytherapy procedures involve the placement of radioactive sources temporarily proximal to the tumours to sufficiently irradiate the tumours while limiting radiation damage to healthy organs and tissues. Most current brachytherapy systems require manual placement of the ultrasound probe and brachytherapy needles in the specified anatomical region. Robotic technologies can provide stable image acquisition, tracking, orientation, and needle placement, and allow more accurately and precisely placed brachytherapy probes. The two PhD projects will focus on 3D imaging systems for brachytherapy of prostate cancer and improving tracking and positioning of the sources in real time and with respect to the cancerous growth. Funding details This studentship includes a fee bursary to cover the Home/EU tuition fee rate plus a maintenance allowance of £15,500 in 2017/18. Eligibility criteria Applicants from outside the EU may apply for this studentship but will need to pay the difference between the ‘Home/EU’ and the ‘Overseas’ tuition fees, currently this is £7641 (full time) for the 2017/18 academic year. As part of the application you will be required to confirm that you have applied for, or, secured this additional funding. Person specification The successful applicants should have a first-class or upper second-class honours degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science or Engineering or a related degree with interest in medical robotics and image guided surgery. Preferred skill requirements include knowledge/experience of image processing, mechanical design and control engineering. The applicants should have a masters degree in one of the relevant subjects.
