The commercial games
All of them are published by Psygnosis.

They are available on numerous platforms: Amiga, Acorn Archimedes, Amstrad 464, Atari ST, Commodore C 64, Mac, Sinclair Spectrum 128k, Sinclair Spectrum 48k SAM Coupe, PC, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Atari Lynx, Nintendo Game Boy, NES, SNES, Sega Mega Drive (Genesis), Sega Master System, Sega Game Gear, 3DO, Amiga CDTV + CD32, CDi.

Lemmings
    the original Lemmings game.
    also called: Lemmings 1
    Lemmings is a puzzle computer game, developed by DMA Design and published by Psygnosis in 1991, originally for the Commodore Amiga. Lemmings was one of the most popular computer games of its time and several games magazines praised the game, giving it some of their highest review scores at the time. The popularity of the game led to development of numerous official and unofficial ports to other systems, including most recently ports to the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 in 2006 and 2007, and the creation of several sequels.
    The behavior of the creatures in Lemmings is based on the popular myth of lemmings mindlessly moving into danger en masse. In order to save a minimum number required for each level, the player must determine how to assign a limited number of eight different skills to specific lemmings that allow the selected lemming to alter the landscape, to affect the behavior of other lemmings, or to clear obstacles as to create a safe passage for the rest of the lemmings, sometimes even by means of sacrifice. The gameplay of Lemmings has been stated to be the forerunner of the real-time strategy video game genre.
     Gameplay: Lemmings is divided into a number of levels, grouped into four difficulty levels. Each level comprises both destructible landscape elements such as rocks, indestructible sections such as steel plates, and include numerous obstacles including chasms, high walls, large drops, pools of water or lava, and traps that trigger when a lemming is close. Each level also includes one or more entrance points and one or more exits. The goal is to guide a certain percentage of the green-hair, blue-shirted lemmings from the entrance to the exit by clearing or creating a safe passage through the landscape for the lemmings to use...
      Includes 120 levels in 4 different ratings (Fun, Tricky, Taxing and Mayhem). The Amiga and Atari ST version has 30 extra levels for 2-player mode. I got information that SNES version has got an extra 5th rating called Sunsoft which seems to have at least 10 levels. For the Archimedes a different version running on the desktop in windows is available

Oh NO! More Lemmings
    similar to the original Lemmings
    sometimes referred to as Lemmings 2.
    100 levels in 5 different ratings (Tame, Crazy, Wild, Wicked, Havoc). Amiga and ST version with 10 two player levels. Again, there is an Archimedes windows version too.
    Platforms: Amiga, Atari ST, Mac, Archimedes, PC, ...???
    Oh No! More Lemmings (ONML for short) is a computer game expansion to the Psygnosis game Lemmings. Sometimes referred to as the "data disk," it contains 100 unique single-player levels and six new music tracks. The Amiga version also includes 10 two-player levels. This game is not the official sequel to Lemmings, a title that goes to Lemmings 2: The Tribes.
    Unlike the original game, none of the levels borrowed graphics from other Psygnosis titles. In one level, "Inroducing SUPERLEMMING", the game clock is greatly sped up. Also unlike the original Lemmings, each level is unique; no levels appear in multiple difficulty categories with different amounts of each skill.
    The gameplay is effectively identical to the original Lemmings game. However, while the first few levels for the Fun rating in the original game are tutorial-like, the Tame levels in ONM Lemmings are just simple levels without hints on how to complete them. All subsequent levels are considerably more difficult than those from the original game and become tougher at a much greater rate. Some players consider the Oh No! levels to be more entertaining, as they present a much greater challenge than those of the first game. The quota for the skills on many levels is set so that you need to use them all up, thus giving only one possible way to complete many levels in ONML.

Lemmings for Windows
    contains all the levels from the original game and Oh No! More Lemmings.
    Platforms: Windows 3.1 with Win32S and WinG, is said to make trouble within Windows 95 - there will be a special version soon.

Lemmings for OS/2
    This version might never get finished. Like the Windows version, this one includes the original levels and Oh No! More levels.
    Platforms: OS/2

Lemmings 2 - The Tribes
    released in 1993, is the first real sequel to the popular puzzle game Lemmings. As with the original, it was developed by DMA Design and published by Psygnosis. The gameplay remains mostly the same as the original game, requiring the player to lead all the lemmings to their exit by giving them the appropriate "skills".
    Platforms: Amiga, Atari ST, Archimedes, PC, Nintendo - SNES, Sega Genesis & Sega CD, Sony Playstation... ? (MAC version has been canceled)
    Numerous changes and additions were made in this sequel. First of all, there is an introduction movie explaining the storyline of the game. Secondly, there are now many, many more skills available to give to the lemmings, unlike the eight in the original game. There is still a total of 120 levels, but in this game they are divided into ten levels for each of twelve tribes.
    Lemmings 2 was not quite as popular as Lemmings was, nor was it ported to as many platforms. One complaint was that the many different skills were too confusing to players, despite the game's "Practice Mode". In spite of all this, it was well received and considered by many as a worthy sequel
    Storyline: Once upon a time, the twelve lemming tribes of Lemming Island lived happily and peacefully. However, an ancient prophecy fortells a great darkness soon to consume the land. This prophecy told that the only way the lemmings could survive was by evacuating their island, using the power of the Lemming Talisman. This talisman consisted of twelve pieces, one owned by each tribe. With the help of the Guide that has helped them before (Referring to the player in the previous Lemmings game), all lemmings must now reach the center point of their island in order to escape their doom.

Christmas Lemmings '91 & '92
    Holiday Lemmings is it's other name. Platforms: Amiga, PC
    Xmas Lemmings 1991, had only four levels and was a freely available Lemmings demo. It had two Christmas levels & two levels from Oh No! More Lemmings.
    Xmas Lemmings 1992, like 1991 had four levels and was free. This time, they were all Christmas-themed.

Holiday Lemmings '94 and Holiday Lemmings '93
    also called Christmas Lemmings
    whereas the Holiday Lemmings before 1993 where free demo versions with only few levels these are full games. The '93 edition has got 32 levels and the '94 one 32 new one but includes the 1993 levels too.
    Platforms: Amiga, PC, Mac
    Holiday Lemmings is a series of short computer games released between 1991 and 1994, based on the original Lemmings game released in 1991. First released as Xmas Lemmings as two four-level demos in 1991 and 1992, there were two later full retail releases on the Amiga, PC, and Macintosh in 1993 and 1994, titled Christmas Lemmings in the UK and Holiday Lemmings in the US. The games were developed by DMA Design and published by Psygnosis.
     The gameplay remained exactly the same as the original Lemmings game, requiring you to lead the required number of lemmings to their exit by giving them the appropriate "skills". The original game Lemmings was not required to play any of the Xmas Lemmings games. The difference between these games and the original game were the Christmas/snow-styled graphics of the levels, and that all the Lemmings wore Santa Claus suits.
      Christmas/Holiday Lemmings 1993 had difficulty ratings "Flurry" and "Blizzard" with 16 levels each, and was sold in stores at first, but was later made freely available with the release of Holiday Lemmings 1994.
      Christmas/Holiday Lemmings 1994 was sold in stores and had difficulty ratings "Frost" and "Hail" with 16 levels each, plus the levels from 1993.
      In late 1995, versions of the game 3D Lemmings came out with 3D Lemmings Winterland included, which was an expansion pack of four levels with wintery graphics. While it wasn't particularly Christmas-themed, but rather had the themes from 3D Lemmings disguised, its concept appears to be a conclusion of the Xmas Lemmings games.

Lemmings 3 - All New World of Lemmings (ANWoL)
    Platforms: PC, Amiga (AGA only)
    Released in 1994, as the third game in the popular Lemmings puzzle game series. In North America, the game was named The Lemmings Chronicles. It was published by Psygnosis and was the last Lemmings game developed by DMA Design.
    Alternate titles
    * Lemmings 3 - Informal
    * The Lemmings Chronicles - US
    * All New World of Lemmings - European
    The gameplay remained similar to the original games, requiring the player to lead all the lemmings to their exit by giving them the appropriate "skills". However, as the game's title suggests, both the gameplay as well as the graphics were "all new". Fans disagree on whether or not this made it a better game, but no more lemmings games were made in the same style.
    The storyline of ANWoL continued where Lemmings 2 left off. Of the twelve tribes that escaped from Lemming Island, the adventures of three tribes are followed in this game; the Shadow tribe, the Classic tribe and the Egyptian tribe. Each tribe leaves the flying Ark they escaped on, and has found their own island to explore. Unlike all previous Lemmings games, ANWoL represented the lemmings with larger graphics, and now introduced enemies and an alternative way of giving lemmings skills. The game had a total of 90 levels, 30 for each tribe. Like in the previous game, the lemmings saved in one level are the ones left for the next one.

Lemmings 3D -  Lemmings 3D Winterland
    real 3D graphics. 20 training levels + 80 normal game levels. Warning: game control is quite hard to learn but still a lot of fun.
    Released in 1995, developed by Clockwork Games and published by Psygnosis. The gameplay, like the original Lemmings game, requires the player to lead all the lemmings to their exit by giving them the appropriate "skills". It was the first Lemmings game to be rendered in 3D. It was released for DOS, PlayStation, and Sega Saturn.
    Storyline: The only introduction is a movie. It shows a completely flat (2D) lemming popping out of a computer's floppy drive, and finding a "3D" button to press, which makes him 3-dimensional. After that, the PC blows up and the (now 3D) lemmings inside it escape.
    Gameplay: 3D Lemmings is played by using four different, movable cameras to fly around and get an overview of the level. While some levels have fixed cameras, most of the time they can be freely moved at any time, although without the ability to tilt up or down. Another viewing option is the "virtual lemming" (VL) which allows the player to see through the eyes of a selected lemming.
All skills from the original game are available, with one new one: the turner. A turner is similar to a blocker, in that he stands in one place and can only be removed by being blown up or dug out from underneath. However, instead of making other lemmings turn back, he directs them 90 degrees either left or right, as chosen by the player. Diagonally positioned blocks in levels will also make lemmings move left or right (basically reflecting them)...
     Addon: An additional level pack/playable demo named 3D Lemmings Winterland was released for 3D Lemmings on the PC, which included six levels with in a new winter style. The gameplay stayed the same.

Lemmings Paintball
    totally different from the other Lemming games. In about 100 levels two teams of lemmings have to shoot each other with colour bullets. There is a two-player mode for networks.
    Platforms: PC with Windows 95, Sony Playstation, MAC?

Title: Digger!
Post by: Megawatt on February 27, 2008, 04:06:59 am
Aς βγω για λιγο offtopic:
Επισυνάπτω το αρχειο του κλασσικου παιχνιδιου :) :)

(http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/8718/digmx8.jpg)

Digger was originally created by Windmill software in 1983 and released as a copy-protected, bootable 5.25" floppy disk for the IBM PC/XT. As it requires a genuine CGA card, it didn't work on modern PCs. In 1998 a new version was created by Andrew Jenner which runs on all PCs with CGA or better and, whilst retaining all the atmosphere and playability of the original, has many new features, including:

* Exit button
* Optional VGA graphics
* Recording and playback
* Real time speed control
* Keyboard redefinition
* Gauntlet mode
* Two player simultaneous mode

The keys are as the default Digger keys
- arrow keys to move, F1 to fire.
Press F9 (not F10 as in other versions) to abandon a game in progress and return to the title screen. Press + or - to change speed,
and Esc on the main menu to switch between 1 and 2 player mode.
Click on the Java applet to give it focus if it does not respond.

Sound and many of the "Remastered" features such as VGA graphics, keyboard redefinition, gauntlet mode, 2-player simultaneous mode and recording have not yet been implemented.

Distributive size: 105K Windows-95,98,ME,2000,XP,NT

Due to their association with this odd behaviour, lemming suicide is a frequently-used metaphor in reference to people who go along unquestioningly with popular opinion, with potentially dangerous or fatal consequences. This is the theme of the video game Lemmings, where the player attempts to save the mindlessly marching rodents from walking to their deaths.

μα καλά... δεν διάβασες τι λέει λίιιιίγο πιο πάνω?

While many people believe that lemmings commit mass suicide when they migrate, this is not the case. Driven by strong biological urges, they will migrate in large groups when population density becomes too great. Lemmings can and do swim and may choose to cross a body of water in search of a new habitat[5]. On occasion, and particularly in the case of the Norway lemmings in Scandinavia, large migrating groups will reach a cliff overlooking the ocean. They will stop until the urge to press on causes them to jump off the cliff and start swimming, sometimes to exhaustion and death. Lemmings are also often pushed into the sea as more and more lemmings arrive at the shore. [6]

The myth of lemming mass suicide is long-standing and has been popularized by a number of factors. In 1955, Carl Barks drew an Uncle Scrooge adventure comic with the title: The Lemming with the Locket. This comic, which was inspired by a 1954 National Geographic article, showed massive numbers of lemmings jumping over Norwegian cliffs.[7]. The suicide myth was further propagated by Walt Disney documentary White Wilderness in 1958 which includes footage of lemmings migrating and running head-long over a ledge. An investigation in 1983 by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Brian Vallee, showed that the Disney film makers faked the entire sequence using imported lemmings (bought from Inuit children), a snow covered turntable on which a few dozen lemmings were forced to run, and literally throwing lemmings into the sea to show the alleged suicides.[8] This myth is also witnessed in a German film - The Little Polar Bear (Lars, the polar bear)--in which a group of despondent lemmings are frequently jumping off various ledges.[9]
